Aegis Ventures has partnered with Northwell Health to launch Upliv Health, a women's health tech start-up that aims to empower women in perimenopause and menopause to take charge of their mental, physical, and emotional health through holistic care services and evidence-based information. With our clinical experts and coaches, community-based platform, and whole-person healthcare recommendations, we focus on educating our patients and equipping them with the knowledge to make clinician-guided decisions about their menopause health. We help women realize tangible symptom relief and overall improvements in their health outcomes so that they can devote more time and energy to who and what they love.

Upliv is the first sister company out of Caire, a virtual care platform company that will support and scale a portfolio of virtual healthcare companies and brands that address unmet patient, provider, and payer needs, creating a shared operating system and infrastructure layer across every core function, from technology product to provider recruiting. As the first sister company, Upliv will create the model for how the Caire infrastructure will support and interface with the portfolio of sister companies.

About the Role

Upliv Health is seeking a passionate and energetic full-time Founding Engineer who will lead the creation of Upliv’s virtual care technology platform. As the first sister company within Caire’s platform, Upliv will be the trailblazer in defining the technology platform needs for the broader Caire infrastructure. Accordingly, we are looking for someone who can both lead the creation of Upliv’s technology platform while also being able to rapidly incorporate learnings and collaborate with Caire’s technology leadership to set the vision for Caire. As the Founding Engineer, you will have full ownership over Upliv’s technology strategy as well as play a pivotal role in shaping the vision, design, and structure of the Caire technology platform.

The Upliv platform will launch in October with its first cohort of patients. Upliv is currently working with a software development shop to create the MVP version of our platform for launch. As Upliv’s Founding Engineer, your first task will be to work with the outsourced development team to understand the technology as designed and help ensure the right support for the platform through MVP launch whether through internal hiring, leaning on this outsourced team, or a combination of both. Following the launch, you will be responsible for helping to build out Upliv’s technology team and support the buildout of additional features for the Upliv product offering.

We envision the Founding Engineer will collaborate very closely with Caire technology leadership, sharing learnings from Upliv’s product build and contributing to the design and vision of Caire’s platform. You will work closely with Caire’s technology leadership to ensure that Caire’s platform will support all of Upliv’s product needs. Eventually, when the Caire platform is ready for Upliv, we envision that you will plan for and lead the swapover from Upliv’s independent platform to Caire’s platform infrastructure.

Our ideal candidate is a flexible team player who is equally as comfortable getting into the code and building software as they attract and leading a small but mighty team of engineers. They are comfortable working in a number of different team iterations as the organization grows and can handle the ambiguity of supporting the MVP platform needs now while simultaneously shaping the vision of the platform we need in the future.

  •  Spearhead the technology development of Upliv’s digital platform 
  • Develop an information technology strategic plan (short and long-term) that will effectively support business strategy and goals
  • Develop and maintain an understanding of the market opportunity, user needs, sales cycle, deployment process, and ongoing delivery model to help support the creation of quality deliverables, processes, and timeline
  • Collaborate with Caire’s CTO to share learnings and assist in the design of the Caire platform to support Upliv’s needs
  • Recruit, train, and lead a high-performing engineering team 
  • As needed, participate in all aspects of agile software development including design, implementation, and deployment
  • Work across the full stack, building high-quality solutions that enable positive user experiences and measurable business growth
  • Develop new features and infrastructure development in support of rapidly emerging business and project requirements
  • Manage key vendor relationships, including with the software development shop, project managing build projects to ensure they come in on-time, on-budget, and match the articulated Upliv user needs
Candidate profile
  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, including:
  • Ideal 2+ years in technology leadership, healthcare domain a plus.
  • 4+ years of full-stack software engineering experience
  • Advanced experience with at least one frontend and backend framework, and at least some experience with python, Django
  • Experience building scalable systems with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, GCP, Azure, …)
  • Significant experience with hiring, leading and mentoring more junior engineers
  • Experience working in highly-secure or highly regulated industries a plus
  • A strong understanding of the health tech and healthcare AI industry a plus
  • Experience working with or leading data science/technical teams is a plus
  • Experience at a fast-paced, high-growth company is a plus
  • Considerable knowledge of and experience in managing day-to-day operations and staffing needs with the ability to prioritize multiple projects.
  • Ability to actively communicate, inspire and motivate across the enterprise.
  • Ability to communicate highly technical concepts in non-technical terms to be understood by stakeholders, vendors, and clients.
