Joel Burton

I'm a Python web applications engineer, with a strong focus in polished, content-focused websites.

I was one of the earliest contributors and key members of the Plone community (http://plone.org), and served for years on the board of directors of the Plone Foundation. Together, we created one of the largest-scale and most successful Python-based application- and CMS systems.

Under the name "Plone Bootcamps", I taught over 100 week-long intensive trainings on Python-based web development. There are over 2,500 graduates of these training, plus almost 2,000 more people who have taken my trainings at conferences and workshops.

For the past few years, I've been focusing increasingly on Django-based development work. I find it to be an excellent toolset for modern API-focused fast-to-market web applications.

I'm particularly skilled in PostgreSQL (I'm a code contributor to the project), but familiar with other data stores. I'm a strong Javascript programmer and a reasonably talented UI designer, though most of the projects I've worked on have had outside UI/UX consultants.

A good example of a recent Django site I built is for Zana.io, a site that combines learning assets, video delivery, and community contribution, and was built to be web-scalable with a mobile-first, responsive design.

I'm always interested in learning about interesting work and interesting people. Feel free to say hi.
