Join an energetic and committed new media team, producing the website for one of the preeminent Public Radio stations in Southern California. Southern California Public Radio (SCPR) and KPCC.org are looking to hire an Assistant Web Developer skilled in Python and Django.

The position is a part-time, on site, hourly position (for approximately 20 hours per week).

You'll work closely with the Web Developer and New Media Staff to aid in the creation, production and maintenance of online initiatives for Southern California Public Radio (SCPR) and KPCC.org.

Candidate will work in a hands-on capacity to build and maintain web sites and online tools along with a variety of other New Media platform products including iPhone apps, mobile websites, streaming and downloadable audio and video services.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in computer science, journalism, media, communications, design and/or equivalent experience.

  • Experience in web development with HTML/CSS mastery and fluency in other Web scripting languages such as Python, Ruby, and PHP.

  • Experience with a full-stack MVC web framework. (we use Django)

  • Experience with development of MySQL database-driven Web sites.

  • Experience with streaming and downloadable media formats and systems required.

  • Comfortable on the command line

  • Experience with DVCS (we use Git)

  • Ability to work under heavy deadline pressure.

  • Demonstrated ability to work in an interdisciplinary team environment.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Experience in working with large-scale, consumer-oriented Web sites

  • Experience with media sites.

  • Django/Python experience

  • Experience with JS frameworks (we use jQuery)

  • Familiarity with basic Linux/Apache maintenance

  • Familiarity with public radio and music programming a plus.
