The Victoria Advocate is seeking a talented web developer/designer to join our award winning team. This person will work to help build professional looking tools and applications for Advocate Digital and Victoria Publishing Co.

We participate in the development and use of Django, which is an open-source web framework platform with a vibrant user community. However, we will train the right person who demonstrates passion for their work and a willingness to learn. This position will develop for and within Ellington, our content management platform built on top of Django.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Proficiency in AJAX, HTML, CSS and JavaScript

• Proficiency with the Adobe Design Suite

• A minimum of 2 years of related work experience with web design and usability

• Familiarity with either PHP or Python

• Experience working in a heterogeneous environment

• The ability to work in a team environment under high pressure and tight deadlines.

Additionally:

• Experience with the Django framework is a major plus

• Able to balance priorities and take deadlines seriously

• Think and learn quickly

• Take ownership of projects and be proactive in problem solving

• Help conceive and develop database-driven solutions for the Internet

The Victoria Advocate is an innovative, family-owned newspaper with the goal of being a leader in community digital publishing. Located near the Gulf coast in sunny south Texas, Victoria is situated between 4 metros that are all within an easy, 2-hour drive.
