The San Diego Union-Tribune is currently seeking a full-time Programmer Analyst to join our Information Technology team. This position will work with our other two programmers on the development of our Django-based content management system from http://EllingtonCMS.com for the Union-Tribune Newsroom, http://www.SignOnSanDiego.com, and other internet sites. Projects will also include the development of custom applications and features both off the Django trunk and using Ellington CMS (Django v 0.91).

In addition, projects include the research and development of Web 2.0 applications, assuming a lead role for technical aspects of software development projects, plus architecting, developing, coordinating, and the implementation for major web-based applications developed using Python, Django, Postgres and MySQL.

The Union-Tribune has recently changed its focus from being a newspaper to transforming into a media company. As a result, this position will play a critical role in the web application development projects to achieve our new goals. Many exciting projects are on the horizon and it's an excellent time to bring your skills to our talented team.

Job Skills Required:
* Python - Basic language usage, advanced language usage, third-party libraries
* Django - Data modeling, database interaction, template language, custom template tags, views/requests/filters, admin app, and user registration
* JavaScript - Basic language usage, advanced language usage, third-party libraries, and AJAX
* Apache - Basic setup, administration, and troubleshooting
* Databases - MySQL or PostgreSQL (Postgres) setup and administration
* Linux - Basic setup, administration and troubleshooting
* HTML - Basic coding knowledge
* CSS - Basic coding knowledge
* Shell scripting - Basic experience
* Excellent communication skills with internal clients

Job Skills Preferred:
* Drupal, PHP, AJAX, Perl
* GoogleMaps - Experience with GIS-oriented applications and APIs
* Project management skills
* Use of open source software to provide business solutions
