We’re looking for a star for our news organization’s small web team who likes to think different.
What you’ll need is the passion, the creativity and the skills to make our Web site, http://commercialappeal.com, an attractive, dynamic, must-visit hub for local news, information, entertainment and interactivity in our community.
What you’ll get is a chance to work with Ellington, the exciting, Django-based, open-source content-management platform, the choice of a growing number of multimedia news organizations nationwide. And you’ll also have plenty of opportunities to innovate and experiment.
What you should have is:
—Demonstrated expertise with XHTML/CSS/XML/DOM scripting. Django experience would be nice, but we’ll talk to anyone with a solid record in using open-source programming languages and a template-based CMS.
—User-focused thinking. You’ll be dedicated to applying web design standards, search engine optimization, and web-development best practices in everything you do.
—An understanding of databases. Everything we do has a database underneath, and that knowledge also will come in handy in supporting our newsroom’s new push into data projects.
—Headphones and an iTunes library.
Familiarity with local newspaper production, journalism and advertising industries will be very useful but is not required.
