Who We Are: Design for America (DFA) is an award-winning nationwide network of interdisciplinary student teams and community members using design to create local and social impact. We teach human centered design to young adults and collaborating community partners through extra-curricular, university based, student led design studios tackling national challenges in Education, Health, Economy and Environment.
Online Learning Platform: DFA was a recipient of this year’s Digital Medial Learning Competition sponsored by the Mozilla Foundation. We seek to teach DFAers across the country the DFA human-centered design process by creating a system aligned with DFA’s core values: look locally, create fervently, and act fearlessly to tackle local and social challenges.
Job Description: Design for America is looking for a talented collaborator to bring this platform to life. Our team has developed much of the initial wireframing and use-cases, but we are now looking for a Python/Django developer to work part-time for 4-6 months with us to develop this platform.
This is an incredible opportunity to work on a truly unique educational initiative. We are designing a system on the cutting edge of digital learning and work-sharing. We would love to partner with a self-motivated, passionate programmer interested in changing the face of education and creating a tangible impact.
Responsibilities: Work on a small team of designers and learning experts. Lead development of Python-based learning platform and social network . Iteratively plan, prototype, and implement new features.
Experience: Full-stack experience - we are designing this thing from the ground up and want you to take the lead! Extensive knowledge of Python, Django, HTML, CSS, Javascript/JQuery. 3-5 years experience building dynamic websites or applications in a professional environment Interest in education and design a massive plus! Self-motivated, responsible, and great time management skills. Comfortable working in a team, with designers and less experienced developers.
Co-located and available to meet weekly a massive plus!
