OVERVIEW

The Application Developer works with the Platform and Applications Group to design, build, test, and assist in the deployment and maintenance of software applications for Earth911. The primary focus is in web-based delivery of content and search tools. Responsibilities may also include development of mobile and telephony applications, database and backend API infrastructure, geo-processing and research into new and advancing technologies. 

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Although not an inclusive list, the Application Developer is responsible for performing the following essential duties and responsibilities:

• Build and maintain secure, reliable, efficient software using PHP and Python
• Improve organization and performance of existing software
• Extend the Earth911 platform to new devices and technologies
• Assist in data analysis and generation of reports
• Coordinates with the Interactive Designer to create high-quality user interfaces
• Develops and maintains productive working relationship with team members
• Promotes and maintains a positive, professional image of Earth911 

REQUIREMENTS

Required * Experience in Python programming Background in SQL and relational database design A h2 understanding of client server technology, server architecture, and network protocol and standards Experience developing in a linux environment Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Experience with ArcGIS or other similar GIS applications Working knowledge of geographic information management and spatial data standards Background in WordPress, Django, Ruby on Rails, or similar web platforms Development experience with iOS, Android, or other mobile platforms Experience with distributed version control systems such as Git or Mercurial Knowledge of functional programming techniques and languages

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• 4 years experience in web application development (required)
• BS or MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field or equivalent (preferred)

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly email and web communications.
• Attention to detail with emphasis on accuracy and quality.
• Ability to work flexible schedule as required and maintain excellent attendance standards.
• Strong consultative and problem/solution skills are a must. 
• Proven experience working in a team based, cross-functional environment. 
• Able to lift/move/carry up to 50 lbs.
